413 SOUNDS

Sonic compositions and sound art from 413 Sounds, a capstone language and composition course taught at Michigan State University. We asked ourselves the following questions in this course:

  • How do the soundscapes all around us shape our writing?
  • How can we write about and with sound?
  • What do we hear, and how do we listen?
  • And most crucially: How can we compose with sound to respond to the pressing issues of our times?

Students showcased and performed these works in a public exhibit entitled Sound it Out: Sonic Responses to Survivorhood, Place, and Protest.
